Wispy bangs are the new it-look for bang-lovers everywhere! They are our tried and true favorite, but a little thinner and a lot easier to manage. Bangs are a nice change for women that get antsy with their look and want a simple change that they plan to stick with for a while.

Not only do they look a bit different from what I tend to consider “regular” bangs (those bangs that are cut straight across the forehead, in line with one’s eyebrows), they are also much more textured and choppy with the intent to fall in line with the natural texture of your hair. This technique allows them to settle onto the forehead because they blend in more.

Wispy Bang Inspo

Wispy bangs are typically much thinner than the blunt styles we are so used to. They are cut at an angle and scissored vertically to maintain the uneven appearance. One may not notice this effect unless you look at them straight-on, but visually they complete a look that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. They are typically styled to fall into your eyes in order to give the look a more alluring feel, and we are here for it!

Elizabeth Olsen’s wispy bangs are a beautiful complement to her green eyes. She prefers more natural-looking makeup, and this creates a visually appealing backdrop for her wispy bangs. She wears them just touching her lash line, and has them angled downward to brush her cheekbones.

Actress Rashida Jones wears more unevenly finished wispy bangs, which create an edgy look that softens her jawline. They draw the eyes upwards on her face and fall in line with the long, loose curls she has them styled with.

Beyoncé has long been experimenting with different hair and bangs styles, so we love the wispy look on her! Her wispy bangs balance well with the fullness of the rest of her hair and for a subtle appearance against her petite features. I love this look on her.

Selena Gomez looks incredible with her wispy bangs! Whether she wears her hair straight and layered, or wavy and full, she rocks the wispy bang look. They both frame her face and fall into her eyes just enough for us to enjoy them to the fullest.

Zendaya’s wispy bang look is honestly one of my favorites to date. She is incredibly beautiful to begin with, but these bangs really do accentuate her facial features in all the right ways. I wish I could pull them off this well, but only time will tell for that!

Which face shapes do wispy bangs complement?

Depending on your face shape, bangs may or may not be your cup of tea. Thinner faces with high foreheads are ideal for the style, but if that’s not your look don’t worry! The best part about wispy bangs is anyone can pull them off! There is an endless array of faces in the world obviously. But, the five primary face shape categories are square, angular, heart, round and oval. Below are some of my favorite celebrity wispy bang looks by face shape.

Olivia Wilde is the queen of square-shaped faces. Her jawline is about as square as it gets. Wispy bangs are ideal for her because they perfectly accentuate her celery green eyes and just barely graze her eyebrows. Wilde works the wispy bangs ‘do with the best of them. Talk about gorgeous!

Hailey Baldwin’s angular facial structure and high cheekbones make her an ideal model for wispy bangs. They seem to have become her trademark in the last few years, and honestly she makes me want to get them myself! The choppy spacing leaves us wanting more; yes girl! They are perfectly blended into the layered choppiness of the rest of her hair.

Reese Witherspoon’s heart-shaped face balances out her wispy bangs. he bangs balance the upper part of her face with the lower, a beautiful offset to her sharp chin. Witherspoon has long been a fan of bangs, and has hopped on board the train for wispy bangs; we love her for it!

During her Disney days, actress Debby Ryan loved the wispy bang look! They made her round face look more fresh and young, while balancing it out with the soft curve of her chin and jawline. While this particular style of hair before the age of wispy bangs, her look definitely fits the bill as far as today’s definition of wispy goes. She rocked it then, and I’m sure she could now if she wanted to!

Camila Cabello debuted her own wispy bangs back in March of 2017, and we still love the look on her. They just barely hit her eyes and cover her forehead enough to create a look that creates equilibrium for her oval facial structure. With her long, messy locks to complement them, the wispy bangs come across as a bit punk rock on her and are my favorite look on Camila to date.

Which products are bangin’?

Bangs in general are really difficult to style constantly, and can require a substantial amount of maintenance. Make sure before you commit, you know what you are getting into. If you aren’t ready to commit to doing your hair every single day, there are other styles totally worth the time and money that require much less work. When I say we have all gone through our bangs phase, I mean everyone, including myself. Throughout much of my middle school years I had bangs, although my hair was much too thick to even try to maintain them in a wispy manner. Granted, if I had had access to the necessary products, my story might have been a bit different as far as experiences go.

While wispy bangs are longer and require less products, some of the best things for maintaining them are the most traditional. Here are some products that can help you bangin’ beauties maintain your wispy, cropped looks!

Bang maintenance, wispy style or not, will usually require a round brush and a blow-dryer.

Some of the best round brushes I know of are by Conair. I have been using Conair brushes myself since I was a girl, so I know they’re good. Ulta has a fantastic and affordable round brush options, including this thermal brush which has metal that heats with the blow-dryer and creates a smoother finish.

To accompany your round brush, blow-dryers are also great for wispy bangs and bangs as a whole. My favorite blow-dryer ever was by BabyLiss, and actually belonged to one of my best friends. It got my hair so soft and straight; I was blown away. Ulta Beauty carries the same model I loved, and if you want to try it out, get it here.

If you prefer to straighten your wispy bangs, it’s best to know your straightener like the back of your hand. My longtime favorite hair straightener is the Titanium BabyLiss Pro. You know, the one that was popular in the 90s? That one. Ulta Beauty still carries them because they are just that good, and there is nothing I would rather keep my bangs in line with.

We love the wispy bang look, and would love for it to stick around, but do we think it actually will? I can tell you for certain that I think it will. They create an alluring frame around the eyes and frames the face in a way that draws people in. Yes, they may sweep into your eyes all day, but they’re overall pretty low-maintenance, so that’s easy to overlook. Pairing them with almost any hairstyle, face shape or hair type makes them one of my favorite bang looks so far, and I hope to try them out soon for myself.
