Curly Bangs Are A Stunning Trend If You Refuse To “Tame The Mane”
From a young age, women are encouraged to “tame their manes” with products and tools that cause some nasty build-up and difficult-to-repair heat damage. It’s unfortunate because while straight hair is pretty, processing your hair with chemicals like those required for those fancy keratin-based Brazilian straightening treatments and others similar in nature can destroy your hair. Because of them, you may never get back the luscious curls you so desperately wanted to get rid of. Sounds good, right? It’s not. One day you will miss them, and you can’t turn back time.
One trend that is embracing our curls and most authentic selves is the curly bang. 2019 has brought the curly cousin of the blunt bang to the forefront of our thoughts, and we don’t mind at all.
I remember struggling when I had bangs as a teenager because I could never get them to lay quite straight enough or flat enough to look like the women I saw in the magazines. It drove me nuts, and there was a point where I hated my loose curls because of it. How could I ever even try to be as chic and beautiful as someone like Zooey Deschanel circa 2013 if my bangs wouldn’t even lie flat across my forehead?
On the bright side, I got over it, and hair trends changed to be more inclusive of different hair types and styles. My thick, 2B-patterned curls became beloved to me, and curly bangs finally made their mark as celebrities like Natasha Lyonne decided they were tired of straight bangs for once.
While the curly bang look has been around for quite some time, for example, Beyonce debuted it back in July 2002, and Mariah Carey did the same in September 2009, only recently has it emerged as the new trend. Women around the globe are embracing their natural beauty and natural hair, and this look goes right along with the day’s trending topics.
Celebrity Curly Bangs Inspiration
The last four years have been major for the curly bangs trend. Here are some of the best celebrity curly bang looks!
In September 2015, Rihanna was spotted with her hair in a high curly ponytail and curly bangs on display. Like most trending looks, they looked amazing on her, and we hope she brings the back for 2019!
Lily Collins showed up to the 2017 Cannes Film Festival with her gorgeous curly mane in full bloom. We loved the curly bangs on her, and honestly, I appreciated the curly look for her way more than straight hair.
Zendaya is well-known for her trending hairstyles, so it’s no surprise she partook in the curly bang trend! She appeared at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards with the look on full show. With her curly locks and bold eyebrows, we have to say we loved it!
Sarah Hyland posted a throwback swimsuit pic a few days ago, from October 2018 of her cute chopped locks and curly bangs. The look is adorable against her petite features, and we hope she brings it back!

I’m putting this #tbt out there to remind myself that I can make it to the gym. Lately I’ve been making excuses because of the constant pain from health issues. But no more. A woman’s body is a miraculous thing and we can do anything we set our minds to. #summer #bodygoals here I come.
In June 2018, Ciara let her curly locks down, accompanied by curly bangs. They looked impeccable on her, as their curl definition was unparalleled.
Sandra Oh frequently wears her curly bangs as kind of a signature look. I love them on her because they accentuate her cheekbones beautifully.
Yara Shahidi is a big lover of her curly hair, and her bangs are no different! The tiny corkscrews are super sweet on her, and the entire look is pulled together by the grin on her face.
Why jump on board the curly bangs wagon?
There are several reasons that curly bangs are ideal for today’s powerful woman. Here are my top 3.
First, humidity- humidity- HUMIDITY. Summer is upon us, and with the heat, I can guarantee we don’t want to be spending two hours on our hair just for it to puff up as soon as we head outside. Yes, there are products to help with this issue, but sometimes there isn’t enough time in the world. Curly bangs only rarely need smoothing products to accentuate the curls, but no round brush or blow-dryer or time is required!
Speaking of time, what if you wake up late for work and can’t spend time fighting to make your hair pin-straight? Curly bangs are ideal for the days when you have to roll out of bed and pick food over your hairstyle. It’s only so easy to walk into work happy and with a caffeine high than to worry over hair that is done before you get up. #IActuallyWokeUpLikeThis
For all those women out there who naturally perspire a lot, curly bangs conceal the dew without you having to worry about it showing. I know it can be difficult; sweat equals oily skin. We understand. But that doesn’t mean you have to fight your mane! Curly bangs make it easy for all of us!
No matter your reason, comfort is vital when it comes to this hairstyle. Curly bangs allow you to look your best, and your hair will feel so much healthier.
How To Achieve Curly Bangs
For women who have naturally pin-straight hair and want to jump on board the curly bang train, do not despair! You have options too because curly bangs are an excellent option for literally everyone.
Texturizers and sea salt sprays are ideal for creating precisely this type of look. The spray can be used on the entire head, or just on the bangs if you are interested in creating a curly bang look.
I have made sea salt sprays for friends of mine with straighter locks. They work incredibly well and add volume as well as curl to your hair.
Here is a recipe for sea salt spray, if you want to give it a try on your own!
You will need four ingredients: one cup of sulfate-free conditioner, one teaspoon sea salt, a ½ cup of warm water and one cup of hair gel.
Mix the water and salt first in a bottle of your choosing. Usually, it is best to use a container that comes with a spray nozzle.
Add the conditioner. Shake vigorously. The conditioner will help to moisturize your hair because the salt may make your hair dry.
Add the hair gel and shake the bottle vigorously again. Hair gel will allow the concoction to create hold.
Spray your hair with the sea salt spray and scrunch! Use it sparingly to ensure you do not damage your hair. Salt can dry it out, and we do not want that!
While making the salt spray at home is an excellent option to ensure you know what is going into your product, texturizer and sea salt spray grace the aisles of many stores. Here are some great choices to get you started!

We love the curly bang look. It is an easy-to-manage look for women who don’t want to spend a ton of time on their hair every day. I love it, and hope it sticks around long enough for me to grab my scissors; mainly because it took so long to become trendy. I can’t wait to see what the future will bring for the curly bang trend!
