hunger magazine

What should I do with my hair? I'm bored with its current state and I'm slowly inching ever so close to getting bangs. My mane no longer inspires me, and mymotivationis waning -these are dire times.

On my journey to reinvigorate my boring hair I looked to the celebrities who always take major hair risks. I'm talking the celebs who get bold hair cuts, wear fun wigs and overdose on hair bedazzlement. I now have some ideas brewing, so I'm ready to share my list of carefully curated hairstyle inspiration with the world. Boring hair is officially canceled.

Boring Hair Hacks, as Seen on Celebrities

Ponytails

A cute ponytail is a fun boring hair hack. And, if you’re overdue for a root touch up, have skipped a few too many shampoos, or haven’t straightened your hair in eons, no one will ever notice.

Statement Hats

Hat hair is better than boring hair any day of the week. A good on-trend hat is the perfect hair accessory to combat hair boredom. A cute hat doesn’t require any commitment. It’s a giver, not a taker and it’s dedicated to holding you over until you figure out if you want bangs or not.

Beyoncé

Grammy’s weekend for Beyoncé should be renamed the year of the hat. Every night the singer and mogul donned a different statement hat from wide-brimmed to beret. The best thing about wearing a wide-brimmed hat when you’re so over your hair is that your hair has to take a back seat. Like Beyoncé, you can further add glamour by teaming your wide-brimmed hat with oversized drop earrings.

Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid channeled her inner French girl to shake things up. Her straw beret stole the show from her sleek bob. She completed her look with tiny cat-eye sunglasses and hoop earrings.

The veiled wide-brimmed hat Amal Clooney wore to the royal wedding was her second-best accessory that day. If you’re bored with your hair go full-blown vintage-inspired glam with a veiled hat. With a hat on your head, clutch in hand, and your very own George Clooney on your arm you’ll forget all about your hair for the day.

Hair Tinsel

I’ve seen loads of people add braids cuffs to their box braids and cornrows but playing with hair tinsel on any hairstyle is so ahead of hair trends right now. I’m convinced that hair tinsel is the future. Hair tinsel definitely sends a tribal-earthy vibe, like a pixie fairy. It’s also the best hack out there right now. If you love to play with hair color and highlights, but not at the expense of a healthy mane, hair tinsel is your best friend.

In an exclusive interview with Refinery29 Vernon François said “As we have traveled around the world for the “Black Panther” opening, creating looks of empowerment that showcase the strength of African heritage has been our priority,” François said. “For Lupita’s Academy Awards look, we knew that we wanted a structured hairstyle with a strong identity, and [we were] drawn to Amasunzu hairstyles.”

François added further depth to the already culturally profound hairstyle by interweaving gold hair tinsel for extra glitz.

Rihanna's bobby pin hairstyle was a show-stopper at the Met Gala after-party. The trendsetter took a hair accessory previously reserved for relaxing at home and made a statement with it. She further pulled the look together with oversized hoop earrings, a purple fur coat, and purple lipstick to match.

Wigs

You may be ready to just set your boring hair on fire. But a less dramatic solution is wearing some brightly-colored wigs. The wigs on the market today are truly next-level, and there’s no reason why we should let celebs have all the fun. Eradicate boring hair by wearing a really cool wig. The brighter the color the better. It certainly beats dying your own hair.

Zendaya

Let’s face it, there’s no haircut more drastic, more bold, or more brazen than a posh mullet. A mullet doesn’t give a shit, so it was the perfect choice for Zendaya. The model and actress is notoriously unafraid to take fashion and hairstyle risks. This time Zendaya’s ombre mullet was a tribute to the late David Bowie. From head to toe, she paid homage to the Bowie with an androgynous look she finished with a menswear-inspired outfit.
