When you think of a witch you may imagine green skin, ghastly warts, long nose, and a twisted grin. You may think of piping hot ovens and scratchy, unkempt brooms and we can’t say you’re wrong. This year we are here to help inspire your most daring desires for your inner sorceress. We all know the stories of this witch and that, but which witch are you? Good or bad? This Halloween, bring both to the table as the baddest “good” witch around.

If you aren’t sure which witch is which do not fret, dearie. Here are some ghoulishly delightful witch makeup options to please your spooky spirit this Halloween night.

“Darling, some people have a twisted sense of beauty.”- Morticia Addams

“Game of Thrones” sweetheart Sophie Turner showed off a sultry Morticia Addams Halloween costume alongside husband Joe Jonas as Gomez last year. While Morticia was never directly identified as a witch, many things about her imply it. Turner’s smoky eye and blood-red lip color are sexy and simple for your Halloween look. Don’t forget to hollow out those cheekbones ladies, we want to look skeleton-chic this spooky night.

“Every avalanche begins with a snowflake.”- Ms. Wardwell, “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”

Miami-based makeup artist Deborah Ruiz conjures a look Sabrina Spellman herself would be proud of. Not all witches are covered in green skin and warts. This is a perfect look for our low-key enchantresses who do what they know is right (most of the time).

Ruiz’s white-blonde bob is held back with Sabrina’s signature headband, and her deep maroon lip brings her witch makeup to life. The soft blend of deep red-brown along her lower lash line matches the lip color perfectly.

“I’m a homicidal maniac. They look like everybody else.”- Wednesday Addams

MUA Victoria Lyn takes Wednesday Addams and gives her a major glow-up with this bewitching tutorial. Her cut crease is as sharp as a blade. The black-glitter accents are to die for. She carves her cheekbones carefully and bakes using a teeny Jack-o'-lantern sponge. This look has our skin crawling with glee, perfect for H-Ween-19.

“One bite and all your dreams will come true.”- Queen Grimhilde, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”

Costume-makeup extraordinaire Julia Wunderlich brings our worst nightmares to life with this witch makeup look. She sculpted the face of her Grand High Witch (from “The Witches” by Roald Dahl) using costume putty from when the witch makes a statement by removing her hair and exposing her disfigured scalp. Wunderlich’s talent with effects makeup is encompassed by this look. We wouldn’t want to run into her on the street.

“A person should always choose a costume which is in direct contrast to her own personality.” — Lucy van Pelt, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”

Creative makeup artist Moose is stunning in her Medusa-inspired look. This witch makeup references the legend of Medusa, a woman defiled by the gods and turned into a Gorgon. A sad story yes, but Medusa is the baddest of the bad. Moose made her snake headdress from scratch (which is impressive), and can we please talk about her striking light blue contacts?

“Don’t toy with me, you saucy minx.” — Salem the Cat, “Sabrina: The Teenage Witch”

Makeup queen Julianna Mur cuddles her gray cat, her familiar we’ll call him, showing off her witch makeup. This look is captivating and sweet. Her dark teal hair compliments her deep red lip color perfectly. Faux freckles and rosy cheeks stand out against her hazel contacts. Don’t forget to pay attention to the tiny sequin stars and moons accenting her soft mauve-purple eyeshadow. It’s bewitching, to say the least.

A sideways crescent-moon graces her forehead, representing the virgin goddess, Artemis. As witches are traditionally required to be virgin maidens (at least at first), it’s a suiting tribute.

“It’s a full moon outside. The weirdos are out.” — Dani, “Hocus Pocus”

Special effects makeup maven Katie Elizabeth Butt captures our attention with her intense third-eye witch. The look itself is chilling. Butt uses white contacts to erase her pupils and irises. Her third eye looks real, but believe it or not, it’s drawn on. She drips blood from every eye socket, a chilling detail and her crown of picks protrude from her scalp to her neck.

We think it would be a grueling challenge to recreate this look, so we dare you to give this enchantress a try. Who knows, it may suit your inner witch.

“Magic is really very simple, all you've got to do is want something and then let yourself have it.” — Aggie Cromwell, “Halloweentown”

Destiny Godley’s gypsy-inspired makeup is gorgeous. Her smize is surrounded by royal purple and galactic blue eyeshadow. The colors blend out perfectly, it’s mesmerizing. Witches have a deep connection to the universe and to the environment, so this look is perfect for your gypsy queens. Her shiny, star-shaped “freckles” are the optimal accent to her perfectly-contoured cheekbones. Her lips are a ghoulish black that drips shine.

“I’ll get you my pretty. And your little dog too.” — Wicked Witch of the West, “The Wizard of Oz”

Makeup artist Nadia wears her green skin with pride, straight from the land of Oz. Her witch makeup takes the traditional “Wicked Witch of the West” and gives her a taste of beauty. Elphaba’s green eyes match her green skin, and Nadia sculpted her nose with prosthetic putty. She painted thin lines around her under eyes to implicate the dark magic she is so fond of using. Couture Elphaba favors candy red lips, and she makes us melt.

“Being normal is vastly overrated.” — Aggie Cromwell, “Halloweentown”

Penelope Arnold creates an otherworldly look for her witch costume. While we could see ourselves wearing her witch makeup year-round, it is perfect for the mood of All Hallow’s Eve. Arnold defines her eyes with a smooth blend of lusty black, blood-orange, dark maroon and light gold.

Her sharp cut-crease glows orange, red and black. Our favorite part of the eyeshadow is the unusual way Arnold cuts off blending along her lower eyelash line. It is aesthetically pleasing because of how clean the line is.
She offsets the vampy eye look with a bloody red lip lined in black. Her porcelain cheekbones are softly contoured, bringing all the attention to her eyes and lips.

“I, myself, am strange and unusual.” — Lydia, “Beetlejuice”

Makeup queen June brings to life this witchy makeup look, inspired by a favorite artist. The witch makeup is devilishly simple, yet mesmerizing. We feel like we’re staring at a doll. June’s eye shadow sits quite high above her crease, as there is no eyebrow to cut the look any lower. It’s a pale blue to bring just enough attention to her accented corner lashes.

The buds of color gracing her cheeks bring the slightest warmth to her gray pallor. Her lips are just barely lined with kohl, blended to keep the shape visible.

“'Tis now the very witching time of night, when churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out contagion to this world.” — William Shakespeare

Self-taught MUA Charity Leigh took to the ‘Gram with this incredible sorceress makeup look. Her version of witch makeup embraces golden-double irises and shadowy lip color. The runes across her cheeks and forehead are drawn with eyeliner. Her foundation makeup is so well done, and her skin is flawless save for the smudged shadow detail.

Leigh labels her character as Ahmanet, a princess of Ancient Egypt who was promised the throne, then scorned. Legend says that the scorned princess then made a deal with the Egyptian god of death and killed her family. Can we agree she’s both a baddie and a bad witch?

“In this whole wide wicked world, the only thing you have to be afraid of is me.” — Fiona, “American Horror Story: Coven”

Aesthetic injector and makeup guru Emily’s witch makeup is ideal for this Halloween season. Her velvety black pout pairs well with her silver-smokey eyeshadow and crisscrossed lines around her eyes. The lines resemble broken twigs and extend down to her hollowed-out cheekbones. Her pale green eyes are striking against her otherwise shadowy makeup.

Here at I Am & Co., we live for the undead and spooky season. Witch makeup is the best way to go for Halloween 2019. There are so many different versions of witch-fabulous, we can’t even see straight. Whether you go full green-queen as Elphaba or glam-blonde as Sabrina, we know the world will shiver at your beauty and power.
