Septum Piercings: 15 Pieces of Inspo That Are "Good As Hell"

Getting a septum piercing is a hard decision, but it doesn't need to be. There are many perks to them: they're temporary, they're fun, they're an expression of self-love and sexuality. But there are also some pitfalls: piercing cartilage hurts, they're challenging to hide, and the world says they aren't professional. Here's the kicker, everything we've mentioned has an answer with septum piercings.

Celebrities and models can wear septum piercings without judgment, but what about the rest of us? Can metal in the center of your face fill a void and face a panic attack head-on? Well, yeah.

As someone who has been contemplating a septum piercing for years, here's my list of worries (and answers) to hopefully satisfy yours.

To start, it probably won't hurt as much as you think. There aren't many nerves in the spot where septum piercings are done, but pain tolerance does vary person to person, and it all just depends on how thick the nose cartilage is. It looks more painful than it is most of the time.

Your employer may not like facial piercings, but you don't have to tell them you have a septum piercing. That's the cool thing about this particular facial piercing. You absolutely have your freedom to make a statement with it or not. Septum rings come in a closed circle style (similar to nostril rings) as well as an inverted, open style that can be flipped up into the nose and concealed.

As with all piercings, it isn't going to hurt you if you decide you don't like your septum piercing after a week. We don't recommend taking out the piercing early, but if you do, scarring should be minimal.

Pretty much anyone can pull off a septum piercing. They look cute, sassy, sexy, and everything in-between. Celebrities like Lady Gaga and Willow Smith have tried the trend and looked great. They have been wearing septum piercings for years, so here are some of the most popular celebrities who have had septum rings throughout their careers.

Rihanna

SingerRihannais known for sporting some of the biggest trends in the world —tattoos on her hands, tattoos around her collar bone, wearing curly bangs, andof course her sternum tattoos, to name a few — but her fake septum ring was a sight to remember. Yes, it was temporary ladies, but she looked hot. The ornate septum ring sat perfectly above her philtrum and drew the viewer's eyes toward her full pout.

We love septum piercings and hope the trend becomes more common in the coming years. For a facial piercing, septum piercings are incredibly versatile.

They please your cool-girl aesthetic, soothe your anxious inner diva better than a fresh dye job and lookgood as hell, all-in-one. What do you have to lose? If you don't want to show it off, put in a horseshoe ring or a smaller piece of septum jewelry. Decide you don't want it anymore? Take it out — no one will be able to tell.

Trust us, we understand that it can be a little nerve-wracking to get a new piercing. Needles are the worst, right? But look at it this way: for all the ways it could go wrong (mind you, there aren't many), there are five times as many ways a septum piercing can go right for you.

Like Lizzo says, "We have to start being more honest with what we need, and what we deserve, and start serving that to ourselves." For some, that thing we need is a kind shoulder or a moment of peace. For others, we soothe our inner divas with change. Septum piercings are a good type of change, just saying.
