People never really like to admit how much time they actually spend watching their favorite shows or movies. Especially when it comes to streaming services such as: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or even Youtube TV. Honestly, you can fall down a hole and what feels like an hour can turn into a whole day spent binging.
When it comes to movies, I prefer options on Netflix. I’ve spent many, many hours on Netflix, so much so that the “Are You Still Watching…?” screensaver was probably created specifically for me. Which by the way, Netflix: If you’re reading, of course I’m still watching and I think it’s very rude of you to interrupt my viewing time.
I like to think of myself as a self proclaimed guru of some of the best movies to watch with your friends that Hollywood has to offer. Girls night in? Saturdays are for the boys? It doesn't matter, just grab your friends and get ready to watch some of the best and cringiest movies ever.
1. “Bridesmaids”
“Bridesmaids” is the quintessential 30-something’s movie. This film is all about a friendship's ability to stand the test of time and competition for the title of “BFF.” “Bridesmaids” is one of the best movies to watch with friends. Beyond the deep underlying theme, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Melissa McCarthy's performance will make your friends cry laughing.
2. “Ibiza: Love Drunk”
I think it’s safe to say I’m not the only person who has dreamt of meeting someone famous while out with friends, on vacation somewhere exotic, or even on the street and falling madly in love or even just having a wild story to tell later. After watching “Ibiza: Love Drunk” I added Ibiza to my travel bucket list in hopes of one day having a similar experience as in the movie.
The movie centers around Harper, who after being offered a business trip to Ibiza, travels abroad with her two best friends who decide to tag along. While out partying, Harper just so happens to catch the eye of the club’s DJ and is then invited backstage, just to realize the reasoning is quite embarrassing. This one interaction leads the three friends on what seems like an impossible journey to meet up with the DJ, named Leo West, once again. Did I mention that Leo West is played by none other than “Game of Thrones” Richard Madden? Swoon.
After watching “Ibiza: Love Drunk,” I convinced my two brothers to watch it as well and I am confident in saying that even they loved it. “Ibiza: Love Drunk” is definitely one of the best movies to watch with friends.
3. “Trainwreck”
"Trainwreck," starring Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, and Lebron James is a "snort out loud" level of funny film. It’s one of the best movies to watch with friends, especially the ones that are free-spirited and know how to party.
4. “The Spy Who Dumped Me”
"The Spy Who Dumped Me" is not your typical action flick or comedy. It’s one of the best movies to watch with friends because it takes all the best parts from action and comedy films all wrapped in one hilarious package. Don't be surprised if your watch party turns into one big love fest.
5. “Set It Up”
Becoming an assistant after college seems like a logical choice while stuck in that limbo phase of trying to secure a job in your respective workfield. But, what would you do if you got stuck in that assistant position? Working overtime, no promotion in sight, and answering phone calls and emails until your boss finally decides the workday is over at an ungodly hour into the night. “Set It Up” stars Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell, as Harper and Charlie, as they try to set up their bosses in an attempt to be free of their never ending assistant duties.
With their bosses too busy with each other, Harper will finally have time to write and explore the local dating pool while Charlie will finally be able to give his model girlfriend the attention she deserves. “Set It Up” will have you and your friends devising up fictional plans on how to bring love back into the workplace. Because if your boss is in love and in a relationship then they won't be as concentrated on work and you’ll have time for a personal life, right? No one is bound to get hurt in the process. “Set it Up” is one of the funnest movies to watch with friends because it’s low-stakes but still highly entertaining.
7. “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”
"How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" is a cooky classic that your friends will love. It’s one of the most fun movies to watch with friends because it may even spark some confessions about the “craziest” things they've done for love.
8. “Crazy Stupid Love”
"Crazy Stupid Love" is the movie that made everyone realize just how hot Ryan Gosling is. Beyond the eye candy, this movie is a crazy-stupid-funny and a great option for movies to watch with friends. Make sure to add it to your movie marathon lineup.
9. “Love, Rosie”
“I’m never going to find love,” literally the first thing I said after watching “Love, Rosie” for the first time. It’s a story about childhood friends who grow up and never seem to be at the right place at the right time. I’m not going to spoil how the film ends, but I can say that you will for sure shed some tears as you realize that two people who love each other are constantly led in directions opposite of one another.
As a huge believer of the universe and its unpredictable forces, this movie made me believe that out of the seven billion people on Earth, I’m going to be one of the unlucky ones who will constantly be so close, yet so far, from finding my happy ending. “Love, Rosie,” starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, was another movie that I convinced one of my 30 year old, single brothers to watch. Let’s just say that being single and watching the movie may make you rethink all your choices up to this point.
10. “Wolf of Wall Street”
The "Wolf of Wall Street" is a wild voyeuristic ride into the lives of wall street millionaires. This movie, based on a true story, is less about crunching numbers and more about crunching pills. “Wold of Wall Street” is a white-collar trippy film that will reach “movie classic” status at some point. Until then it'll for sure keep your friends' eyes glued to the screen.
11. “Superbad”
The ultimate raunchy classic for Millennials, "Superbad" is perfect for watching with friends that have a good sense of humor.
12. “Knocked Up”
"Knocked Up" is yet another Judd Apatow directed film that'll make your friends L.O.L. It may also make your friends recall any of their own “close calls.”
13. “The Package”
If you’re looking for a not so traditional comedy, I definitely recommend watching “The Package.” The movie is about a group of friends who go on a spring break camping trip and while on this adventure, one of them accidentally cuts off his... When it seems like help has arrived, an accidental mistake has the friends racing against time to deliver ones “package.”
When watching this with your friends, maturity levels will definitely come out. You’ll either completely hate it and spend the entire time on your phone, or you’ll enjoy all the innuendos placed throughout. Fun fact: Before being titled “The Package,” the movies original title was simply “Eggplant Emoji.”
14. “Inception”
"Inception" is a game-changer mind-bending film that will captivate your friends, make you question your eyes, and lead to hours worth of tinfoil hat theories.
15. “Coherence”
"Coherence" is a mind-f*ck of an indie film that will spark confusion and theories. Be prepared to start, stop, pause and rewind this film a lot because your friends won't be satisfied until they "figure it out."
16. “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch”
Sugar Puffs or Frosties? Deciding which cereal to start your day off with is the first obstacle you have to face in “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.” If you have never watched an episode of the “Black Mirror” anthology, don’t worry, you can still enjoy Netflix’s first interactive film. The plot of the movie follows a young video game programmer who gets an incredible opportunity to adapt one of his favorite books into a video game. Coincidentally, he starts going a tad bit crazy just as the author of the book once did.
While you may miss the “Black Mirror” series-based easter eggs placed throughout the movie, I guarantee you and your friends will be screaming at the television screen while watching the interactive film. Using your remote, you will only have ten seconds to make a decision when asked to do so. If you fail to make a decision, a default choice will be made for you before the movie can continue.
The movie has an average viewing time of 90 minutes or, depending on your choices, can end in 40 minutes. There are even points in the movie where you can choose to restart the film altogether. With more than one possible ending, I spent close to four hours trying to watch every possible scene that was created. Like a night of trivia, I would be sure to choose your viewing party carefully.
17. “Ex Machina”
Your friends will love "Ex Machina" for the superb acting and unique storyline. It’s one of the coolest A.I. movies to watch with friends because it could inspire an all-nighter discussion of the future of AI intelligence.
18. “Guardians of the Galaxy”
Good tunes, funny lines, and incredibly-shot scenes? Sign us up! "Guardians of the Galaxy" is one of the most entertaining movies to watch with friends; it’s a must for any party.
19. “Avengers: Infinity War”
If you’re looking for something to deep dive into, Marvel movies are some of the best movies to watch with friends. With “Avengers: Endgame” now in theaters, a refresher on all that has happened thus far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe couldn't hurt. Some of the movies are available on Netflix including, “Avengers: Infinity War” which was the movie that left us with loose ends that will hopefully be answered in Endgame. The MCU also features some kickass females like Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, and Black Widow.
20. “Thor: Ragnarok”
Okay, let's see, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, AND Cate Blanchett in a masterfully shot action flick? If Thor: Ragnarok isn't on your list of movies to watch with friends, you're missing out.
