7 Holiday Party Looks That Are Totally Out Of The Box (Style Guide)

December is the month of holiday cheer and endless holiday parties. The Company Holiday Dinner, the annual Christmas get-together with your friend group, and maybe you’ll step out on the town for New Years Eve too. Holiday Party season is also the perfect excuse to try a fun and festive look. We all know the traditional tried and true holiday attire: shiny sequins, velvet or plaid, standard colors of Hunter Green or Cherry Red, and of course, Silver and Gold details. But what about the women who like to spice things up? Here are seven out of the box holiday looks to help you break from the traditional and have your fellow party goers in awe:

Extravagant Glitter Eye Makeup

So, I am not just talking a pretty shimmering eye shadow across your top lid, I am talking a full blown glitter fairy! Stage-esque makeup has been an ongoing trend for the last few years but many women are still afraid to overload on the glitz. Here is your official invitation to get crazy, even if it's just for the holiday. There are loads of helpful beauty gurus online and makeup tutorials such as this one that can get you started. Trust me, the post-party pictures will be worth the effort.

Neon Green

Many are calling this upcoming color trend daring but I call it Holiday Ready! When the traditional Hunter Green just won’t cut it, try going Neon. This color is perfect for the woman who likes to stand out in the crowd. Whether, you make it subtle with neon green accessories or rock a full blown neon green outfit, you can be sure that you will be unmatched at this year’s festivities.

Tessa Thompson wore a Neon Green mini dress by Prada and a neon green clutch to the Creed II premiere in New York City recently. She paired with a silver pump making the whole look perfect inspo for your next social occasion.

Teddy Bear Coats

Tell the other guest that they came to party but you came to be cozy! The Teddy Bear coat is lush without being over the top like a faux fur, and gives extreme happy feels. This would actually be the perfect coat for a Cancer Rising, who always gives cute but comfy vibes. You can go with the ordinary neutral tan or cream color Teddy or you can get festive with a stand out Mauve like this Tularosa Teddy Coat.

Animal Print

If you have ever asked yourself “when is a good season to wear animal print?” The answer should be “When you damn well please!”. Animal print is continually becoming a season agnostic trend and maybe one day soon will take its place among wardrobe staples like the LBD and or plain white tee. While everyone is in their red velour and sparkly sequins you show up looking ferocious and sexy to get the party started. * Cues our favorite Animal Print wearing Queen Eartha Kitt singing “Santa Baby”

Sneakers Paired With A Skirt Or Dress

Not everyone is the high heeled, super “femme” type and that is actually perfect for this trend. It gives you a chance to mix your fancy sequins or gorgeous gown with your favorite Adidas or Chucks. The look comes across casual but extremely fashion forward with minimal effort from you (and gives you more leverage on the dance floor).

Styling should be easy but if you need extra inspo look here. You win Bonus points if you can pair your sneakers with animal print for trend on trend alert.

Feathers

Here is another option if you're tired of sequins. Ostrich feathers! An ostrich feather skirt gives a more mature look than a tulle skirt with the same “Oh you're fancy fancy” type of vibe. No matter the color your choose or what you decide to pair it with, these skirts are elegant. Definitely for the party goer who wants to be unique and refined. I would wear this for more of a upscale Company Holiday Dinner or Black Tie Event.

A Crown

I tend to love “Doing the Most” type looks so it's no surprise that there are crowns here. Wearing a finely crafted headpiece can really allow you bring out your inner Queen and every holiday party could use a touch of your goddess like grace, am I right? This is an especially amazing addition if you decide you want the rest of your outfit to be understated and minimal.

Crowns also work for those of us who have super curly hair and can’t wear most hair accessories without it getting lost or stuck in the coils (the process of pulling it out is brutal). That is why I love this look on Yara Shahidi for Teen Vogue. She adorns the Glossy Pearl Wide Headband by Lelet NY with two flat twist to each side feeding into marvelous curly ponytails.

I challenge the adventurous few to try a few of these looks simultaneously! I for one am thinking a crown and extravagant eye makeup will give the Ethereal Earth Angel look that I want for my next party. Let me know how you plan to turn heads at your next event!
