Everlane’s Day Market Tote is the bag you choose if you need a nice overnight bag or have days when you need to carry your whole life with you. This tote is roomy and can easily house everything you want to dump into it including your laptop, your lunch, notebooks, jacket and a pair of flat shoes for when it has been one of those kinds of days.

The Everlane Day Market Tote Initial Impression
Everlane’s Day Market Tote is 100% Italian leather yet still half the price of comparable totes. The leather, which is both vegetable and chrome tanned, feels robust yet lightweight. The bag is able to stand on its own as the form factor is structured. The base feels quite solid which gives you confidence that the contents will be secure and not shift around.
The inside of the Day Market Tote is a lighter-toned unlined raw leather and there’s a rather large pocket that can store a substantial amount of personal items like your keys, cell phone, lipstick, wallets.
The straps are flat which allow for a comfortable wearing experience as they don’t dig into your shoulders if you’re carrying heavier items like a laptop.
Because the straps are 100% leather they will need time to break in and be more pliable over time with wear. Along the same vein, you may find that the bag as a whole feels more structured initially but it will break in a bit and soften up which is normal for any leather item.
The branding detail on Everlane’s Day Market Tote is minimal with there being the one logo on the outer top edge of the bag. The stitching is also subtle which is important if you enjoy a more understated style of bag.

How Your Everlane Day Market Tote Is Made
Your Day Market Tote is manufactured in Prato, Italy by a husband and wife duo, Elena and Stefano, who immigrated from China at a young age. You can learn more about the people who own and manufacture your bag by reading the factory information Everlane provides on their site.
This insight into how your tote is made is an example of Everlane’s commitment to a more transparent retail relationship with its customers. On your tote order page, you can see that the cost to manufacture the Market Day Tote is currently $74, which roughly 86% of that cost comes from materials and labor.
Everlane also informs the shopper that they currently mark up their bags by $100 which is substantially less than comparable totes. That $100 per bag is then distributed to cover additional costs of overhead like employees, business operations, and what’s left is profit.
Leather that is labeled Italian leather means that it was tanned in Italy which has an industry reputation of a more-skilled tanning process. Like Everlane’s Modern Loafer, the Day Market Tote is both vegetable tanned and chrome tanned which means you get to experience the beauty of the vegetable tanning and the long-lasting durability of chrome tanning.
According to Everlane, the leather used in its products comes from adult cows killed for meat, so their cow-hide is a by-product of the meat industry and therefore not wasteful.

The Everlane Day Market Tote Is Large
The Day Market Tote is 19" wide at the top and 16.5” wide at the bottom which makes it on the larger side for totes on the market. Its size lends itself to being an excellent work bag but because the design of the bag is subtle and elegant it’s still a great option if you just prefer large bags.
The size can also make it quite easy for you to lose things in it. Perhaps you’ve been there before, in the grocery line and digging through a bottomless pit of a bag for your debit card.
In the most stressful of situations maybe you’ve found yourself on your knees rifling through the contents of your bag. There’s definitely potential for such an event with the Day Market Tote, so it may be worth your while to purchase a pouch organizer or a larger wallet to accent the bag and save yourself a headache.

How The Day Market Tote Wears Over Time
One of the more integral things people want to know before making a purchase is if it’s a good investment and for that people want to know what they can expect from wearing their bag over time. I personally prefer the look of worn leather because it adds character and logically there’s no sense in trying to avoid the inevitable.
The Day Market Tote does break in and soften up over time, the degree to its softening depending on the size, amount and weight of the contents you carry in it regularly. For example, if you fill up the inner pocket with keys, wallets, and makeup you may find the outer side of the pocket soften and protrude a bit.
You may also notice scratches over time from typical wear and tear from keys and rubbing against sharp surfaces. But, all in all, there are no red flags. After a few hundred uses this bag still looks gorgeous.
