15 Throat Chakra Stones Spiritual Experts Say Improve Communication

Our ability to speak up, communicate, and say how we feel is an art. Many of us don’t spend enough time learning the craft of self-expression. Many of us struggle with knowing how to explain inner turmoil or mental fluctuations.

Many of us worry about saying too much or not saying enough. Self-expression is a skill, and our communication powers live in one of the seven chakras—the throat chakra. There are many ways to activate this chakra, and one of them is using throat chakra stones and crystals.

The Throat Chakra

“The throat chakra is all about balance and communication, emotionally, verbally, and physically,” according to Vinay Amin, health and wellness expert, and CEO at Eu Natural.

This chakra, Vishuddha, is all about our voice, our truth, and our self-expression. It’s how we talk about ourselves, how we speak to others, and how we communicate with the universe. This chakra owns how we convey what we want from this life and the stories that we tell along the way.

When the throat chakra is out of alignment, this could mean that you’re afraid of sharing something, living in a self-limiting story, or unable to express your emotions openly. When the throat chakra is in alignment, you're confident in your messaging, able to convey to the outside world what's happening internally, and good at listening to others.

It is also “the connection of the body to the head, or we can say the mind and body conduit,” according to Tsao-Lin E. Moy, founder of Integrative Healing Arts. “When someone has a block in this area, we look at what is out of alignment. The throat chakra will relate to the thyroid and tonsils, glands, tongue (the root of the tongue), and voice box as well as cervical vertebrae.”

To align or to heal any blocks in the throat chakra, many spiritually-minded individuals turn to throat chakra stones and crystals. Crystals are a great addition to any spiritual wellness routine, and there are several throat chakra stones that compliment balance in the throat chakra.

“To specifically work on the throat, you will want to focus on blue crystals for the fifth Chakra,” says Mae Fox, owner of A-Mae-Zing Mind Body Soul Center. Audrey Christie, holistic wellness practitioner, added that “blue crystals allow for communication to flow, as well as on the physical plane breath and lymph that flows in that area.”

How to Choose a Throat Chakra Stone

With so many of these remarkable throat chakra stones, how do you choose the right one? Leviton suggests that you ask yourself what the stone feels like to you. “Place it on your throat, and it should feel calming and soothing. Do you connect to it? If you feel negative feelings or nothing, try another one.” Through this self-awareness practice, you’ll be able to choose the right stone for you to truly tap into your self-expression.

Why Throat Chakra Stones Work

It’s all about the vibration. Fox claims that “crystals work because of the vibration they emit.” She further explained that “since color is a reflection of vibration, we want to use blue crystals because blue soothes and balances this chakra. Remember crystals vibrate much higher than we do. Human bodies vibrate between 90 hertz (Hz) down to 45 Hz. Crystals vibrate starting around 300 Hz going up into the 1000s Hz.”

Moy breaks this down by explaining simply that “when we are not giving off good vibes, we are not able to receive good vibes and vice versa. Crystals help us to realign and resonate.”

As for why we should keep these crystals close to us? “When we intentionally place a blue crystal near the throat, it creates a vibration and influences the energy and molecules to match it. We can receive the vibration through the throat chakra, and we find it can shake and loosen any denser energy in the area. By processing and releasing the energy, we find it leads to easier expression of thought and emotion through the throat,” said Fox.

A different viewpoint comes from Christie: “The reason crystals work is multi-faceted. If you are looking at the science exclusively, crystals work based on a physics property/theory called entropy. Basically, crystals are highly resistant to entropy, and humans have a low resistance to entropy. When you bring a crystal into your energy field (measurable foru to 12 feet from your body) you begin to entrain the molecules to the vibration of the crystal.”

How to Use Throat Chakra Stones

It varies, so find the way that works best for you.“Crystals can be worn as jewelry, and in this case, a short necklace is a great option because the crystal would then be close to the throat chakra. One could also carry the crystal in their pocket, sleep with it under their pillow, have it on their desk at work, or hold it while meditating,” said Heather Rider, The Energy Synergist.

“Crystals work because they have a very stable energetic frequency (humans have a very unstable, ever-changing frequency). When a person has a crystal next to them, they become “attuned” or aligned to that specific crystal’s energetic frequency,” she said.

Moy offers crystals can also be used “around the house and the office as a way to promote positive energy in the environment. The idea is to maintain a high vibrational frequency to ward off negative energy.” But, before that, “make sure there is no negative energy attached to your crystals by cleansing them first,” says Moy.

“Some of the ways to cleanse stones are to Sage/smudge/Palo Santo, run water over it or place in grass/dirt/flowers,” said Leviton. More ways to cleanse your crystals can be found in the video above.

You can also take this a step further by charging up your stone. Leviton suggests placing it in sunlight or moonlight to charge. According to Leviton, “It’s also incredibly important to take a moment to program your chosen crystals with your intentions. What do you want this crystal to help you achieve? See it in mind’s eye, with the [throat chakra stones] in your hands, and flood your crystal with the vibration of your intention to seal the deal.”

Other Ways to Activate the Throat Chakra

There are so many beautiful ways to express yourself.“Meditation is always beneficial when activating the throat chakra, so is chanting or even singing,” says Christie.

Fox recommends “writing journals, poems, and letters to keep the emotion motion flowing! The bottom line, becoming aware of your emotions and expressing them, is best for one's overall health.”

For me, the most effective way of tapping into my throat chakra is to simply share my truth. I’m a huge proponent of leveraging vulnerability for good, and it takes a lot of bravery to share those parts of ourselves.

Still, the more I express myself from this heart-centric space, the more I find myself aligning my life toward a deeper purpose. If more of us shared our truth, the world would undoubtedly feel a little less alone. And while self-expression may look different for all of us, we must remember that we all deserve to be heard.
